Big band music is a type of musical ensemble associated with jazz that became popular during the Swing Era from the early 1930s until the late 1940s. There are two distinct periods in history that describe the rockin’ era. Beginning in the mid-1920s, big bands typically consisted of 10–25 pieces and came to dominate popular music. At that time, bands usually played a sweet form of jazz that involved very little improvisation and included a string section with violins. Then, toward the end of the 1920s, a new form of big band emerged with a more authentic “jazz sound” and more soloing.
Before the concert, enjoy pre-concert activities in the Fidelity Investments Plaza. Kids and adults alike explore the sounds of the 1940s with The Pavilion Partners Instrument Petting Zoo, sponsored by Music & Arts. Children can design zoot suit ties to get in the spirit before the performance. Mosquito Nix, The Woodlands Country Club, Woodlands Online and Chick-fil-A also provide jumpin’ and jivin’ activities, all beginning at 7 p.m.
At Zoot Suit Symphony, receive a special half-price ticket offer with your donation of a new or used musical instrument. All you have to do is bring your donated instrument(s) to The Pavilion Ticket Office and request the special offer for Zoot Suit Symphony. Guests are limited to eight half-priced tickets for each donated instrument. At the conclusion of the Instrument Drive, all donated instruments will be distributed to Title 1 schools throughout Montgomery County that have requested assistance and to children who are participating in music programs in these schools.
Tickets for Zoot Suit Symphony are $15 for covered reserved, $10 for uncovered reserved. Tickets are not required for the free lawn seating. Reserved seating tickets may be purchased at The Pavilion Ticket Office, located at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on event days through the start of the show. Tickets also are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Macy’s, Fiesta, select FYE and H-E-B locations, Wherehouse Music and Media Magic, by calling 713-629-3700, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Preferred parking is available in the on-site Town Center Garage, located along Six Pines Drive. Parking is $5 per vehicle for this and most performing arts events. Tickets for on-site parking can be purchased in advance at all Ticketmaster locations and The Pavilion Ticket Office. Guests also may park in any of the five free parking lots on the southwest side of The Pavilion. The free, color-coded lots are connected to The Pavilion by corresponding pathways with signs leading across The Waterway.
