WILLS FOR HEROES 2008
Local Lawyers Organize to Prepare Estate Plans for
Montgomery County Hospital District EMS Personnel

The Woodlands Bar Association (“WBA”) will conduct its second annual estate planning seminar for Emergency Medical Services (“EMS”) Personnel of the Montgomery County Hospital District on October 18, 2008 from 9-1 at 200 River Pointe Drive, Suite 200, Conroe Texas 77304.

At this Saturday event, EMS personnel of the Montgomery County Hospital District will have the opportunity to meet with attorneys to finalize and execute estate planning documents.  Estate planning documents being prepared for the participants include Medical and Financial Powers of Attorney, Directives to Physicians, and simple wills for each participant and his or her spouse/partner.

The event is a public service of the WBA provided at no cost to the EMS personnel who elect to participate.  The WBA is a non-profit organization of The Woodlands, Texas area attorneys that is committed to promoting and developing high legal standards and to provide community support which its members, as attorneys, are uniquely qualified to provide.

“EMS personnel of the Montgomery County Hospital District are first responders who provide valuable services and protection to our community,” said Rachael Rolon, co-chair for Wills for Heroes 2008. “As lawyers, we want to do what we can do to legally equip their estates.”

EMS personnel were able to sign up for the event starting in August.  Up to forty personnel and their families will have the opportunity to leave the event with a basic estate planning package.

The Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) is a political subdivision of the State of Texas.  MCHD was established through special legislation in 1977 to provide healthcare for needy residents of the county.  In addition to MCHD’s legislative charge to provide indigent care, MCHD operates the county's ambulance service, 800 Trunked Radio System, and offers a variety of community and professional education programs. "This is a tremendous opportunity that has been extended to our department from The Woodlands Bar Association. Very rarely does any individual have the ability to have this service performed, at no cost, which is so important towards maintaining family stabilization,” Allen Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of MCHD, stated.

“We want to give these first responders the estate planning tools we feel are important for every family to have,” Rolon said.
