THE WOODLANDS, TX. (September 2, 2008) . . . Want to help out the Montgomery County Food Bank while demonstrating your flair for creating works of art out of canned food?
Now you can, thanks to Just Can It!, a unique community challenge which encourages teams to create art from items ranging from peanut butter to canned corn – all in the name of fighting hunger in the community.
The inaugural Montgomery County Food Bank Just Can It! Competition and Food Drive will be held at H-E-B The Woodlands Market on Sunday, September 27 starting at 8 am.
Teams can participate by completing a Just Can It! registration form available at the Market Street concierge desk. Completed registration forms must be submitted to Market Street’s Concierge Desk by September 18 at 5 pm.
Entry fees are equal to the cost of the cans needed to create each team’s work of art, however teams also can supply their own canned goods, provided they are unloaded at H-E-B The Woodlands Market prior to the competition on the morning of September 27. Volunteers will help sort and move each team’s canned goods into place for the competition.
Each team’s entry fees must be paid on Friday, September 26 at a 1 pm meeting of team leaders to be held at the entrance to the H-E-B store. Each entry must use a minimum of 1,500 cans which will be donated to the Montgomery County Food Bank at the conclusion of the event. Other rules are available at the Market Street Concierge Desk.

The sculpture of a Volcano was also completed by a team from Anadarko last year.
First, second and third-place trophies will be presented at the conclusion of the public judging at 5 pm on September 27. A minimum donation of one canned good is required to secure a ballot, however individuals will be entitled to complete multiple ballots for grocery bags of food donated.
Hosted by Market Street and H-E-B The Woodlands Market, the Montgomery County Food Bank’s Just Can It! event is sponsored by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce.
“The competition is a festive way to call attention to the importance of helping those in need,” says Anadarko Petroleum Corporation’s Julie Struble. She adds the Montgomery County Food Bank feeds more than 15,000 residents each month.
About 42% of those served by the organization are children under 18. Nearly 11% of those served by the Montgomery Country Food Bank are elderly.
