THE WOODLANDS, TX (September 15, 2009) - With over 400 live musical performances scheduled this Fall, The Woodlands remains one of the region’s top spots for great, live music, ranging from the afternoon and after-work concerts along The Woodlands Waterway to the new and improved Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and much more.
Every week through December, visitors to The Woodlands can find tunes to satisfy any musical tastes.
“The Woodlands is quickly emerging as a great destination for live music, from top recording artists to local jazz groups,” says Nick Wolda, president of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Here is a sampling of what’s scheduled this fall:
Enjoy art and music in the park at Rob Fleming Park in the Village of Creekside Park every Saturday in September from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, as The Community Associations of The Woodlands Parks and Recreation Department brings local visual and performing artists for all to enjoy. “Arts in the Park” is free for the entire family and includes musical entertainment by Bended Duende, an acoustic folk rock band, as well as reggae island music by Irie Time, traditional blues band by Duke Jones & Band and classic rock music by The Red Black Tree. Later this month, The Woodlands Community Associations presents its 2009 free Concert-in-the-Park fall series, presented by Munday Chevrolet, every Sunday from 6 pm – 8 pm thru October 25. Spend your Sunday evenings listening to live music from a variety of talented entertainers, including the jazzy tunes of Rhett Butler, Swing Thing and many more.
Get out your favorite lederhosen and come celebrate a rich German tradition, as Town Green Park in The Woodlands host its first annual Oktoberfest on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, presented by The Woodlands Rotary Club.
The two-day event will feature authentic German music, food and fun for the entire family. Town Green Park is located along The Woodlands Waterway adjacent to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
With its choreographed fountains located along Waterway Avenue in The Woodlands Town Center, The Fountains at Waterway Square has become a popular live entertainment venue for musicians such as Ramon Torres and Yelba and Max Cat. Catch both artists and many more as The Fountains at Waterway Square presents the return of its popular Live at Lunch and Live at Five series every Tuesday and Wednesday from September 23 thru October 28.
Ramon Torres headlines the free Live at Lunch concerts every Tuesday thru October 27 from 11 am – 1 pm. Torres has become one of the most popular and recognizable bilingual Latin performers in the Lone Star State, with a play list from Jimmy Buffett to Santana.
The free Live at Five events (every Wednesday thru October 28 from 5 – 8 pm) features music from six different bands with various musical genres. Live at Five presents Yelba and Max Cat, September 23; Texas Johnny Boy: A Tribute to American Rhythm and Blues, September 30; Bourbon Street: A Tribute to R&B and Motown, October 7; A Tribute to Jazz, October 14; Scrap Metal: A Tribute to Class Rock & Roll; and The Kelley Peters Trio, October 28.
Entertainment at Waterway Square continues, as its Summer Nights, Waterway Lights series take place every Friday and Saturday from 6 pm – 8 pm. Located along Waterway Avenue in The Woodlands Town Center, this free event features a variety of entertainers including live bands, jugglers, mimes, face painters, stilt walkers, balloonists, magicians, and/or caricaturists.
Looking for fun, tropical-island tunes? Then stop by Tommy Bahama Café & Emporium at Market Street – The Woodlands where musicians take the stage throughout the week from 5:30 – 10:30 pm and Saturday nights from 6:30 - 11 pm.
At America’s restaurant (Waterway Square), diners will find a bold and exciting musical experience as salsa, merengue, Brazilian rock, and top 40’s hits pulsate throughout the multi-level restaurant every Friday and Saturday beginning at 10 pm.
How about some great music and dancing under the stars? Check out Fredastaire Dance Studios during their debut at Market Street – The Woodlands on October 1, 5 and 29. This is the perfect opportunity to be a part of powerful performances, watch glamorous showcases by top-ranked competitors and socialize with other dancers.
The shopping and entertainment center also presents the return of its popular, month-long Fall Concert Series every Thursday night in October when some of the area’s hottest musical talents perform right in Market Street’s Central Park.
Scheduled performers include: Moodafaruka (October 1), Lvele One (October 8), The Brew (October 22) and Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters (October 29).
”Our live music series have become a community favorite," says Market Street Activity Coordinator Jenny Taylor. "People come to shop, listen to music, then grab a bite -- it's a great atmosphere."
And of course, the premiere concert spot of The Woodlands and one of the world’s most popular outdoor concert venues, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, brings an eclectic line-up of fantastic concerts this fall, including Blink 182 (September 24), The Houston Ballet’s Swan Lake (October 9), The Allman Brothers Band (October 17) and the 14th Annual Children’s Festival (November 14 - 15), just to name a few.
“Attending a performance at The Pavilion will be an entirely new experience for every concertgoer, even those who have been there before,” said Cindy DuBois, Director of Marketing and Education for The Pavilion.
There’s also great, live music finds at Goose’s Acre (in Waterway Square), Perry’s Grille and Steak House (6700 Woodlands Parkway in the Sterling Ridge Shopping Center), Amerigo’s Grille (25250 Grogan’s Park Drive), and Berryhill Baja Grill & Cantina (in Market Street) and a number of other restaurant and entertainment venues in The Woodlands.
