Local Scout Donates Lunch Kits to Help Others

The Woodlands, Texas (Friday, April 24, 2009) Brad Newman, a local scout working towards his Eagle Badge, got a jump start to helping others by collecting 225 lunch kits for Interfaith of The Woodlands’ Annual School Supply and Backpack Drive held each year in August.

Newman, a member of Boy Scout Troop #223, worked with his fellow scouts raising money and gathering lunch boxes to be distributed in addition to the school supply kits to children and youth in need for the 2009-2010 school year.

“As a scout, we are dedicated to helping this community and through this exciting and fun project, my team and I were able to help someone who can’t afford to purchase the kit on their own.”

Dr. Ann Snyder, President and CEO of Interfaith of The Woodlands, shared, “Interfaith was thrilled that Brad selected Interfaith of The Woodlands to complete his Eagle Scout project. This special donation will give a little something extra to many young people.”

According to the Boy Scouts of America website, scouts planning to earn Eagle Scout ranking must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community as the project should benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting. The project plan must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, the Scoutmaster and troop committee, and the council or district.

For more information about the donation, contact Interfaith at 281-367-1230.
