THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Wednesday, April 29, 2009) – The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC) recently received the Environmental Planning Award from the American Planning Association (APA), Texas Chapter Houston Section at the 2009 APA Awards Luncheon, held at the Houston Galveston Area Council, according to Robert Heineman, vice president of planning for TWDC.
The APA acknowledges communities, organizations and individuals for outstanding contributions to planning in the Greater Houston area. “We are honored to be recognized for excellence in Environmental Planning by the American Planning Association,” Heineman said. “George Mitchell’s vision was to develop a master-planned community that provided open spaces for conservation of natural beauty. As we celebrate 35 years of being green, The Woodlands offers nearly 6,000 acres of open space including 162 miles of hike and bike trails and 110 parks. At build out, The Woodlands will be close to 8,000 acres of protected green space in the community.”
The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre master-planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston. It is a project of The Woodlands Development Company, a limited partnership of Morgan Stanley and General Growth Properties, Inc.
