THE WOODLANDS, TX (April 8, 2009) . . . With approximately 350 live musical performances scheduled this Spring, The Woodlands has quickly become one of the region’s top spots for great, live music, ranging from the afternoon and after-work concerts at The Fountains at Waterway Square to the new and improved Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and much more.
Every week through June, visitors to The Woodlands can find tunes to satisfy any musical tastes with 342 events scheduled for April, May and June.
“The Woodlands is quickly emerging as a great destination for live music, from top recording artists to local jazz groups and individuals,” says Nick Wolda, president of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The Woodlands is culturally diverse and this is evident in the types of music that will be found in various locations this spring.”
The Fountains at Waterway Square, with its choreographed fountains located along Waterway Avenue in The Woodlands Town Center, is the newest live venue, providing two new series in the month of April: Live at Lunch on Tuesdays and Live at Five on Wednesdays.
The free Live at Lunch concerts (every Tuesday through April 28 from 11 am – 1pm) present the musical works of Ramon Torres. The free Live at Five events (every Wednesday through April 29 from 5 – 8 pm) features music from five different bands with various musical genres. The Live at Five schedule presents Yelba and Max Cat, April 1; Rhett Butler, April 8; Brother 2 Brother, April 15; The Dan Scott Band, April 22; and Little Creek Bluegrass Band, April 29.
Looking for fun, tropical island tunes? Then stop by Tommy Bahama Café & Emporium at Market Street – The Woodlands where musicians take the stage Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 5:30 – 10:30 pm and Saturday nights from 6:30 - 11 pm.
How about great jazz sounds under the stars? You’ll find them at Market Street’s free Spring Concert series held every Thursday, April 23 – May 21, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Enjoy the sounds of Bourbon Street (April 23), Static (April 30), Kyle Turner (May 7), the Texas Dixie Kings (May 14) and the David Caceres Group (May 21).
"Our Spring jazz concerts have become a community favorite," says Market Street Activity Coordinator Jenny Taylor. "People come to shop, listen to music, then grab a bite -- it's a great atmosphere."
And of course, the signature concert spot of The Woodlands and one of the world’s most popular outdoor concert venues, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, re-opens on Friday, May 1, 2009 with a performance by the Dave Matthews Band followed by a schedule of other live concerts throughout the rest of the year.
The Pavilion, newly renovated with expanded covered seating, also is celebrating its 20th Performing Arts Season with an eclectic lineup including eight performance by the Houston Symphony, No Doubt (May 31), Rascal Flats (June 14), Coldplay (July 22) and The 14th Annual Children’s Festival (November 14 - 15), just to name a few.
“Attending a performance at The Pavilion in 2009 will be an entirely new experience for every concertgoer, even those who have been there before,” said Cindy DuBois, Director of Marketing and Education for The Pavilion.
“The amount of renovation and reconstruction that has taken place over the last four to five months as a result of Hurricane Ike has created a majestic venue with a canopy more than twice its original size and three times more covered seats. New sound and lighting systems, landscaping and accessibility have given The Pavilion a brand new look and feel.”
There’s also great, live music finds at Goose’s Acre (in Waterway Square), Perry’s Grille and Steak House (6700 Woodlands Parkway in the Sterling Ridge Shopping Center), Amerigo’s Grille (25250 Grogan’s Park Drive), and Berryhill Baja Grill & Cantina (in Market Street) and a number of other restaurant and entertainment venues in The Woodlands.
