The Woodlands, TX (Thursday, February 12, 2009) Interfaith of The Woodlands is in search of community senior citizens to participate in its third annual intergenerational day of service, Serving Our Seniors (S.O.S.) to be held on March 7, 2009.
Working with Interfaith, youth from Interfaith’s member congregations and local civic groups will spend one day serving our community seniors through various projects.
Lori Mercer, Interfaith Senior Services Coordinator expressed, “Whatever the need, our tremendous group of young people is here to assist senior citizens in our community. The youth will not only be cleaning, raking, painting, and organizing, but building relationships across the generations. Qualifications for seniors are that you are 62 years or older and have a project for the youth to complete.”
“Each year numerous individuals participate in this project,” said Dr. Ann Snyder, President and CEO for Interfaith of The Woodlands. “This year, we anticipate that over 400 teens and more than 200 project sites will be involved.”
The day, March 7, 2009, will begin with breakfast and then the youth will be off to their work project sites.
“This special event not only benefits our seniors, but also the youth in our community,” stated Snyder.
