THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Wednesday, January 28, 2009) – Eric Bauer, director of grounds at The Club at Carlton Woods, has been named a finalist for TurfNet’s Superintendent of the Year 2008, according to William E. Langley, CCM, vice president of club operations for The Club at Carlton Woods. Bauer is one of only six individuals in the United States to be named as a finalist from nearly 200 nominations. Results will be announced on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show in New Orleans.
Lyn Maddox, chairman of the Carlton Woods golf committee, Carlton Woods Invitational Tournament committee member and Carlton Woods Advisory Board member; David Smith, chairman of The Club at Carlton Woods Greens committee and Advisory Board member; Langley; and Mark Steinbauer, director of golf at The Club at Carlton Woods all nominated Bauer. “I have been very fortunate that I have great support from The Club at Carlton Woods’ members and staff. Without their continued support, my success would not be possible,” Bauer said. “Regardless of the outcome, I feel that I have already won in being selected as one of six finalists in the country. To be appreciated and noticed for my efforts is satisfying enough.”
Bauer is a graduate of Joliet Junior College and Michigan State University with a degree in turf grass science. He has 13 years of experience in agronomy and management at high-end Country Clubs. In August 2000, Bauer joined The Woodlands Development Company to help open the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course at The Club at Carlton Woods. He later assisted with the opening of the Tom Fazio Championship golf course, also at The Club at Carlton Woods. During his tenure, the Nicklaus course was named the #3 Best New Private Course in America and the #1 Best New Private Course in Texas by Golf Digest in 2002. After its opening, the Fazio course was recognized as the #3 Best New Private Course in America and the #1 Best New Private Course in Texas by Golf Digest in 2006.
“Eric’s role and responsibilities have changed immensely during his time with The Woodlands Development Company, yet, he repeatedly demonstrates a level of knowledge, management and organizational skills that go above and beyond expectations,” said Langley. “Perhaps the biggest compliment to Eric is that the overall membership feels like he is a special family member.”
The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre master-planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston. It is a project of The Woodlands Development Company, a limited partnership of Morgan Stanley and General Growth Properties, Inc.
