The Woodlands, TX (Tuesday, March 10, 2009) Interfaith of The Woodlands is proud to announce that the 3rd Annual Community Serving Our Seniors (S.O.S) was a success and hit a record number of project sites and volunteers.
On Saturday, March 7, 2009, more than 480 community seniors were helped when over 330 youth, civic group and corporate volunteers assisted them through various projects.
Debbie Repka, Director of Interfaith of The Woodlands Senior Services exclaimed, “Wow, this is a new record! Last year, we had approximately 200 senior project sites and less than 300 volunteers.”
The Woodforest Charitable Foundation, sponsor of the event, presented a $5,000 check the morning of “SOS” which provided funding for this year’s program.
“On behalf of the Woodforest Charitable Foundation, what Interfaith represents is exactly why we have the Woodforest Foundation,” expressed Dr. David Gottlieb, representative of the Woodforest Foundation. “Interfaith reaches all age groups and is the perfect example of what needs to be done in our community.”
At the independent homes, volunteers performed a number of projects and several major repairs. At one site, volunteers helped a senior with plumbing issues within his home and yard work totaling over 30 bags of debris. At several other sites, volunteers helped to repair damaged fencing and performed house cleaning. Volunteers also held car washes at all senior living communities where residents waited in line to get their cars cleaned.
Dr. Ann Snyder, President and CEO of Interfaith shared, “This is what The Woodlands is all about –helping each other with the utmost respect for all individuals.”
