The Woodlands, Texas – The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is in need of volunteers for its upcoming event on April 4 and 5, 2009.
The festival needs approximately 700 volunteers over the weekend to assist in such areas as artist relations, admissions, gate monitors and greeters, children’s art activities, souvenirs, student art exhibit, entertainment stages, surveys and more. Volunteers must work a four-hour shift and, in exchange, receive free admission to the festival and a festival t-shirt featuring artwork created by Rob Garrett, the festival's featured artist. Individuals as well as charity groups and service organizations can volunteer. Volunteers must be 17 or older.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals and local organizations to participate in an event that is visited by thousands of people – adults and children," said Brenda Gottlieb, festival director. "As the festival grows, selected volunteer charity partners will be able to raise even more funds for their arts-related programs, as well as increase awareness of the arts in general.”
Five Reasons Why the Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival Needs YOU!
1. It’s fun!
2. You meet a lot of interesting people, make new friends and gain new networking opportunities.
3. You get to be around “cool artists” all day and see amazing works of art.
4. We need your help! It takes around 700 volunteers to pull this amazing festival off.
5. It’s a great way to spend a portion of your day with a group of friends. You don’t have to volunteer by yourself, get a group together and work as a team.
The event takes place along the Waterway from The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center alongside The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and culminates at Town Green Park. This beautifully landscaped site in the heart of The Woodlands features ample free parking, water taxi and trolley service, concessions within the festival site and an array of eateries and shops within walking distance of the festival. Features of the festival include interactive art activities for children in Town Green Park, student art exhibitions from public and private schools in Montgomery County, entertainment on two stages, dining selections at the “Palette Café” featuring cuisine from P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Jasper’s Gourmet Backyard Cuisine. On Saturday morning, area businesses and organizations get into the creative act as art floats of their own design parade down the Waterway.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Proceeds from the festival benefit local arts-related organizations that are charity partners with the festival. Charity partners for 2008-09 are The Pavilion Partners, Town Center Theatre and The Woodlands Art League.
Guests attending the festival can park in any of the five free parking lots on the southwest side of the festival site. The free, color-coded lots are connected to the festival by corresponding pathways with signs leading across the Waterway. Guests also can choose to pay $5 for closer parking in The Pavilion's Town Center Garage located on Six Pines Drive.
