Alex Sutton, Co-President of The Woodlands Development Company,
Wins NHA Compass Award

THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Thursday, May 14, 2009) – Alex Sutton, co-president of The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC), received the Compass Award from the North Houston Association (NHA) at its Annual Awards Luncheon, held on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Houston North Greenspoint Hotel.

The Compass Award is presented to an individual that has made a significant contribution to the region and to the projects and programs of the NHA. “I am honored to receive this prestigious award from the North Houston Association,” Sutton said. “The NHA is instrumental to South Montgomery and North Harris counties by supporting initiatives and projects that strengthen the business environment and enhance the quality of life in our area.”

Since 1999, Sutton has been a member of the NHA Board of Directors and currently serves as vice chairman. Sutton has brought several important regional issues to the attention of the Association’s Board of Directors which has led to various actions and support from the NHA, according to Paula Lenz, executive director of the non-profit organization.

As co-president of TWDC, Sutton has been active in leading development and commercial projects for The Woodlands, resulting in greater economic development for the area.

His civic and industry involvement includes service as secretary and member of The Woodlands Township Board of Directors; director, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion; director and vice chairman of Montgomery County Youth Services; director, Montgomery County Developer’s Association; vice president of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council and a member of the Urban Land Institute.

Sutton, who currently resides in The Woodlands Town Center with his wife Sharon, holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Rice University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Houston.

During the Awards Luncheon, the NHA presented North Star Awards to City of Houston Mayor Bill White and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett for long-term regional hurricane planning and implementation. The Environmental Impact Award was presented to Oak Ridge North Mayor Fred O’Connor, CEO of Biofuels Power Corporation. The award recognizes a company for its efforts in protecting and preserving the environment in the South Montgomery and/or North Houston region.

The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre master-planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston. It is a project of The Woodlands Development Company, a limited partnership of Morgan Stanley and General Growth Properties, Inc.
