The Woodlands, Texas – The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, hosts approximately 5,000 students from Conroe Independent School District for Fine Arts Education Day: A David Dewhurst Symphony Explorer Concert featuring the Houston Symphony May 20 at 10:30 a.m.
This program was created for Conroe ISD fourth grade students to experience orchestral music and learn about the various instruments in both band and orchestra. This year, as a result of The Pavilion’s expansion and increased reserved seating capacity, sixth grade band and orchestra students from CISD also are invited to attend the event. For these students, the concert will serve as a reminder of where their studies in music can take them if they continue their pursuit of it in junior high school.
For the second consecutive year, the program features the Houston Symphony under the skillful direction of Brett Mitchell. The theme of this year’s Fine Arts Education Day concert is “Creating Stories and Music” and compares the arts of composing music and writing stories. This program helps students recognize the ways authors and composers organize information. It engages students in the analysis of character, plot and setting. In addition, students learn to listen actively and purposefully. This program, offered for free to students, is produced in conjunction with Conroe ISD and supports the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for language arts.
Fine Arts Education Day is a FREE program produced by The Pavilion in conjunction with CISD and the Houston Symphony.
