Bruce Tough to Assume Chamber’s Chairmanship on September 1st

 

The South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce that Bruce Tough, Tough Law Firm, P.L.L.C., has been named Chairman of The Chamber’s Board of Directors for its 2009-2010 fiscal year! He is currently The Chamber’s Vice President of Government Affairs.

Bruce said, "I am deeply honored and humbled to be named Chairman Elect for The Chamber. I have been privileged to serve with exceptional Chamber Chairmen as a vice president and director, and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve The Chamber as Chairman next year. A vibrant and healthy business community in South Montgomery County and The Woodlands is critical to the continued economical vitality and growth of our community and region. My goal for next year will be to encourage more participation, commitment, and support of The Chamber’s programs and its exceptional Board of Directors, team leaders, volunteers, and events presented by our exemplary Chamber."

An attorney who is engaged in the legal practice of civil trial litigation in The Woodlands, Montgomery County, and surrounding counties, Bruce has tried numerous cases in state courts throughout Texas. The areas of practice in which he has participated as a litigator representing plaintiffs or defendants include bankruptcy (Chapter 7, 13 and 11 debtors and creditors), criminal law, business representation (corporate formation and organization), contract, employment, business and construction litigation, personal injury (plaintiff and defendant representation), attorney ad litem and guardian ad litem representation, and family law litigation. 

Prior to establishing his law firm in 1987, Bruce was employed as an associate with Thomson & Elkins, a creditor rights law firm specializing in collection and business representation. He was also employed by Hartzog Family Restaurants and performed duties as assistant to the president involving real estate acquisition, contract negotiation, employment law and business operations.  He was also an intern in the Harris County District Attorney's Office participating in misdemeanor and felony criminal law prosecution.

Bruce practices in all Texas courts, U.S. District Courts for Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern Districts of Texas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, The Woodlands Bar Association (Director 2006-7), Federal Bar Association (Director 1990), College of State Bar of Texas, Pro Bono College of State Bar of Texas, and Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. He served as presiding panel chair 4I 26 and 4I 25 State Bar of Texas Office of Disciplinary Counsel (1999-2005). He has also been a licensed Real Estate Broker since 1982.

He was born in Burbank, California, and moved to Houston in 1968. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston, graduating with Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors, Dean's List. He received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
 
Bruce is a member of University of Houston Athletic Foundation, Letterman - University of Houston "H" Association Life Member, University of Houston Alumni Association Life Member, Life Member of Houston Livestock and Rodeo Association, Graduate Leadership Montgomery County, and is an elected Director to The Woodlands Community Association. 

Active in The Chamber, he was chair for the 2006 Economic Outlook Conference and has been a director 2003–2005 and 2006-2009—serving as V.P. in 2004-2005 and 2006-2007. He was The Chamber’s Citizen of the Year in 2006.

He is a member of Memorial Hermann Hospital Advisory Board serving as Vice Chairman. He is chairman of Boy Scouts of America – George Strake District. He is the past president of The Woodlands Fire Department and past Chairman of The Woodlands Community Service Corporation. He is an appointed member of Montgomery County Community Justice Council. Elected as Conroe ISD Trustee from 2003–2010, he stepped down in 2008 when he elected Director of The Woodlands Township for a three-year term.
 
He was honored as “Hometown Hero” for The Woodlands 30th Anniversary Gala and one of the Persons of the Year by “People Scene”. He received Community Service Award, Boy Scouts George Strake District – 2008. Bruce and Diana have four girls: Madison, Tara, Abby, and Sydney.
