THE WOODLANDS WATERWAY ARTS FESTIVAL TO HONOR TOP STUDENT ARTISTS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS

The Woodlands, TX - The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, now in its sixth year, will again sponsor the Student Art Scholarship Program to be held for students in grades 11 and 12 in all public, private and parochial schools in Montgomery County.  This annual juried arts festival, featuring 200 national, regional and international fine artists, is set for Saturday, April 9 from 10 am- 7 pm and Sunday, April 10 from 10 am – 6 pm along The Woodlands Waterway® and in Town Green Park.

“One of the primary missions of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, the non-profit organization that produces The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, is educational outreach,” said Jenny Wright, festival director. “The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the visual arts. Categories this year include Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Electronic Media, 3-D and Photography.”

All student art entries are due on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Students are to bring their artwork and completed ‘Official 2011 Entry Form’ and ‘Entry Detail Form’ to The Woodforest Bank Club located at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion from 3 – 5 pm on March 9.

The artwork will be evaluated by a jury of art educators, art administrators and art professionals on March 10-11, 2011. All work must be certified by the student, teacher and parent as the student’s own work, and must be created during the 2010-2011 school year. Additional Rules and Regulations also apply; visit http://www.woodlandsartsfestival.com/student.scholarship.asp for more important information.

Student artwork of “Exceptional Quality” will be chosen to be displayed at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival in the Student Art Exhibit located in Town Green Park, and be eligible for scholarship money. Selected artists will also be eligible to enter a Silent Auction to be held at the VIP Art Dash preceding the Festival on Friday, April 8, 2011 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.
