The Woodlands Art League Children's Project Creates Art for
Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch

Artwork created at 2010 Waterway Arts Festival

The Woodlands, TX - Eight brightly-painted, three-dimensional horses; a wooden picnic table filled with ranch scenes and sweet sentiments; along with eight decorated buckets were created, with the aid of The Woodlands Art League, by children for children of the Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch at The Woodlands 2010 Waterway Arts Festival.
The Woodlands Art League is grateful for being a Charity Partner of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival. "The festival provides a perfect venue to instill art all over the community," said Vida Tuminas, president of The Woodlands Art League. "The league firmly believes in community service where everyone helps each other, and we wanted to help Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch by providing art for the children."

Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch is a non-profit organization located in The Woodlands which uses horses through a proven program to help transform the lives of children who suffer from a range of disabilities including physical, mental and emotional disorders.

The art of the horses was made from plywood, and children painted them with yarn tied to chopsticks resembling a "horse tail" to keep with the ranch theme, Tuminas said. The art was then mounted to a fence at the ranch, representing the eight horses at Panther Creek. The wooden picnic table was also placed at the ranch to provide a sitting area for children and their families while the buckets are being used for the horses.

Along with the children's art, a painting of The Woodlands' mounted patrols was donated by official Kentucky Derby artist, Leslie Humphrey. Humphrey's piece of art raised over $2,000 for the ranch.

The Woodlands Art League's project was created at the Artopoly venue at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival. Artopoply consists of hands-on workshops that encourage children and their families to discover art.

The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, produced by The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, is an annual juried arts festival, featuring over 200 national, regional and international fine artists in a wide variety of mediums. The 2011 festival is set for Saturday, April 9 from 10 am – 7 pm and Sunday, April 10 from 10 am – 6 pm along The Woodlands Waterway® and Town Green Park.
