The Woodlands, TX -
Cindy Wexler, store manager for Borders Bookstore/Market Street-The Woodlands, and Angela Colton, executive director for The Woodlands Children's Museum, pose with books to announce the upcoming book drive taking place at Borders March 1 through April 30.
"The Museum hosts many after hour field trips and Museum visits for underserved communities in our county," Wexler said. "We know by donating books to the Museum children will be able to take these books home with them to continue their journey of adventure and wonderment."
Borders hosts an annual book drive for a local nonprofit agency in the community and this year selected The Woodlands Children's Museum as their charity of choice.
"This couldn't happen at a better time for us," Colton said. "We host approximately 300-450 families each day and the books that we have available for children get that 'used' look quickly. We are grateful to Borders for hosting this book drive so we can stock up on featured books and be able to send some books home with those who truly enjoy them."
Colton stated that many do not realize that the Museum is a nonprofit charity and, as so many are, is in need of funds to continue the successful operation of the Museum.
"We have ongoing programs for ages 0-4 and also feature dedicated camps for Spring Break-ation, Summer Camps, Discovery Workshops and the like for older children," Colton said. "Special events are often offered on a 'Free with Admission' basis and camps are offered on a per class fee basis and offers a flexible schedule for everyone to enjoy."
In addition to the many programs, the Museum also offers special events like the recent In-door Mardi Gras parade and mask making, as well as, Einstein's Birthday Celebration. One can also book a birthday party or host a field trip for young aged children. The Museum is also in need of exhibit sponsors for new and exciting exhibits as the Museum grows.
Borders will have a list at each counter and along the Community Wall at the stairs of all the titles the Museum is in need of.
"The community is always so generous for our local nonprofits and we are excited about this particular book drive," Wexler said. "We know the Museum is the perfect partner for us at this time."
Upcoming, the Museum will host an information table at Borders on April 23, Noon - 2pm.
