BREAK THE RULES OF DESIGN AND
MAKE YOUR SPACE YOUR OWN!

LEE SNIJDERS, POPULAR HOST AND DESIGNER OF
HGTV'S "DESIGN ON A DIME"
TELLS HOW AT

THE FALL HOME & GARDEN SHOW AT THE WOODLANDS

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - August 5, 2005 - Lee Snijders, popular host and
designer of HGTV's "Design on a Dime" show, presents his unique
"breaking the rules of design" philosophy at The Fall Home & Garden Show at
The Woodlands. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday,
September 17-18, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center.

Snijders said: "At the Home & Garden Show seminars, I will talk about
my whole design philosophy, which is basically doing the exact opposite
of what all the other mainstream designers do."

As an example, Snijders said that a lot of designers tell you to use
lighter colors to make a room look larger. But he does the exact
opposite.

"I like to use mid to dark tones to make a room look larger, because,
in theory, these darker tones absorb light, giving the room a lot of
depth and drawing you into the space. Whereas, the lighter colors reflect
light, causing the eyes to stop on that surface or plane, giving the
illusion that the room is smaller than it actually is," said Snijders.

Snijders said he takes everything people have been told for years,
turns it around, and then explains why that works better. In his seminars
at the Fall Home & Garden Show at The Woodlands, he will talk about his
unique ideas for furniture placement, color theory, lighting, and
personalizing your space.

He will also talk about how to use his favorite accessory - plants.
Snijders said that plants are fastest and quickest way to warm up a space.
Here again, he breaks the rules.

"Designers will often tell you to only use only live plants." At the
seminars, he will explain how to incorporate silk plants in with live
plants to give a room a totally different look and feel with the added
color, texture, and shadows created with plants.

Other things he will cover include how to choose a color, how to
incorporate the latest technology into your space, and a special presentation
of how to bring your vacation home with you.

Whether your budget is small or unlimited, Snijders said it is all
about personalizing your space. While we've all heard that "you are what
you eat," Snijders believes that "you are what you surround yourself
with."

Prior to diving into the world of television, Snijders spent 4 ½ years
designing theme parks and attractions for Walt Disney Imagineering.

"I learned a lot of different and unique ways to do things that are
outside the norm. I thought that if this type of philosophy and design
works in the world of theme parks, why couldn't it work in our homes. It's
all about creating the illusion, whether it's a kitchen in Tuscany, in
the French Quarter, or a contemporary flat in New York."

Snijders will present two seminars on Saturday, September 17 and will
be available for about an hour after each presentation to talk with
attendees and for autographs.

Other experts presenting seminars at the show include: Randy Lemmon,
host of "Gardenline" on KPRC 950 AM; Michael Garfield, of The High Tech
Texan show on KPRC 950 AM; kitchen design expert Peggy McGowen; local
decorating expert Joni Porter; and Brenda Beust Smith, Houston
Chronicle's "The Lazy Gardener" columnist.
