Lighting Display Along The Woodlands Waterway®
To Be Removed as Trees Grow
THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Monday, August 15, 2005) – The 27,000 lights along The Woodlands Waterway® will begin to be removed on Friday, August 19, 2005 to provide proper growth of the trees, according to Bill Kendrick, project supervisor and director of landscape management for The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC).
“Due to the rapid growth of the trees along The Woodlands Waterway, the lights will need to be removed at this time,” Kendrick said. “The removal of the lights will help avoid damage to the trees as well as the lights.”
An assortment of trees adorn The Woodlands Waterway including Crape Myrtles, River Birches, White Oaks, Elms, Bald Cypresses and Sweet Gums.
The lights were initially placed in 40 trees between The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Waterway Avenue bridge in 2003. In October of 2004, an expanded
display of lights was placed along The Waterway by TWDC and the Town Center Improvement District (TCID). “It is The Woodlands Development Company’s desire to replace the lights along The Woodlands Waterway this fall provided adequate funding can be obtained,” Kendrick said.
