TROLLEY SERVICE ANNOUNCES RIDERSHIP FIGURES, ADDS NEW STOP AT H-E-B IN MARKET STREET

The Woodlands Waterway Trolley service, the new, alternative form of transportation in The Woodlands Town Center now averaging 6,000 passengers per month, has added a new stop at H-E-B in Market Street.

Since its inception on July 4, the free trolley service has steadily increased its passenger counts, says Steve Sumner, vice president of operations and public safety for The Woodlands Township. The 6,000 monthly passenger number pleases The Woodlands Township officials, he adds, and expectations are that the numbers will continue to grow.

“The trolley service supports our environmental initiatives,” adds Sumner. “We're very pleased with the initial ridership counts.”

Besides adding its new stop at H-E-B at Market Street, the air-conditioned, ADA-compliant trolleys will continue to make stops at the Community Center/South Montgomery County Library; Town Green Park; Central Park at Market Street; the South Entrance to The Woodlands Mall; and Woodloch Forest Drive at Ring Road. Trolleys also operate along The Woodlands Waterway Ò with stops at Landry's, Anadarko, at Woodloch Forest Drive at the Waterway Bridge, Waterway Avenue; at the south entrance of The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel's south entrance on The Woodlands Waterway; and the south exit of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion along the Waterway.

The free trolley service operates daily from 11 am – 8 pm.

The service will operate during a two-year pilot period after which The Township and the Houston-Galveston Area Council will assess ridership data.

This public transportation system is a partnership between The Woodlands Township, the Houston-Galveston Area Council, and The District is part of a regional effort to improve air quality in Montgomery County.
