Community Organizations & Businesses Prepare for the
30th Anniversary of Arbor Day in The Woodlands

Free trolley rides from designated parking areas to the event

THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Friday, January 12, 2007) – Community organizations and local businesses are preparing for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Arbor Day on Saturday, January 20, 2007 from 10 am until 2 pm at Town Green Park in The Woodlands Town Center, according to Susan Vreeland-Wendt, director of marketing for The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC).  Lovable mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone, will also celebrate his birthday at the event. 

Town Center Improvement District (TCID) and TWDC are sponsors of this event while the Community Associations of The Woodlands is sponsoring the tree giveaway.  The Brickman Group, Ltd. is a participating sponsor of Arbor Day.  The Friends of the Trees sponsor is Coldwell Banker United, Realtors®-The Woodlands.

Free trolley rides will take visitors to the Arbor Day event from designated parking areas on Six Pines Drive and Timberloch Place.     
Over 28,000 tree seedlings in eight different varieties will be distributed free, continuing a 30-year tradition that began in 1977. The selection of trees includes Bald Cypress, Cherrybark Oak, Loblolly Pine, Mayhaw, Nuttall Oak, Swamp White Oak, Texas Redbud and Yellow Poplar.  Five, 15-gallon trees including East Palatka Holly, Japanese Blueberry, Southern Magnolia and Water Oaks will be given away at the event at approximately 1:45 pm.  Registration is free, and you must be present to win.

Free giant inflatable rides, face painting, musical entertainment and free children’s gifts (while supplies last) add to the fun.  Puffy’s birthday celebration will begin at 1 pm with several mascot friends joining in the celebration including Clutch from the Houston Rockets.  Children will enjoy free birthday cupcakes.

To visit the Arbor Day celebration, take I-45 North or the Hardy Toll Road to the Woodlands Parkway exit, number 76B and follow the signs to the event in The Woodlands Town Center.  For a map to the celebration, visit www.thewoodlands.net.
