The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Ranks Fifth in the World Based on Ticket Sales for 2007

The Woodlands, TX – According to the Jan. 14, 2008, edition of Pollstar magazine, the concert industry’s leading trade publication, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion ranked fifth in its listing of the top 100 amphitheatres in the world based on the number of tickets sold in 2007. The Pavilion’s ticket sales totaled 347,456 for concerts played between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2007.

Live Nation, the national promoter that books the major contemporary concerts at The Pavilion, ranked No. 1 in Pollstar’s listing of the top 100 promoters based on the number of tickets sold worldwide in 2007. Ticket sales for Live Nation totaled 36.2 million, a number representing the combined totals of Live Nation, House of Blues, Live Nation Global Touring and CPI.

“We are excited to have ranked in the top five amphitheatres worldwide for a second consecutive year,” said Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion. “I attribute much of our success to a strong partnership with Live Nation and the continued development of The Woodlands as a destination full of amenities for our concertgoers.”

Top-selling concerts for 2007 included ZZ Top, Kenny Chesney, Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution, Buzzfest, Incubus, the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Gwen Stefani, Brad Paisley and Def Leppard.

In addition to its lineup of contemporary entertainment in 2007, The Pavilion presented a performing arts series that included eight Houston Symphony concerts, performances by Houston Ballet and the Texas Music Festival Orchestra, two theatrical productions of Clifford The Big Red Dog™ LIVE!, a four-day Children’s Festival and several educational and community outreach programs.

“What makes The Pavilion so unique is the fact that we are the Summer Home of the Houston Symphony and the Home Away From Home of Houston Ballet, we produce educational programs that affect more than 25,000 children a year, and on top of that, we host 30-40 Live Nation concerts annually featuring artists such as ZZ Top, John Mayer and Kenny Chesney,” MacDonald said. “Very few venues in the country produce the variety of events we do. That is something that makes us very proud.”
