THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Monday, January 16, 2006) – Lovable mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone, thanks The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC), The Community Associations of The Woodlands and Town Center Improvement District (TCID) for sponsoring the 29 th Annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, January 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Market Street in The Woodlands Town Center, according to Susan Vreeland-Wendt, director of marketing for TWDC.
The Community Associations of The Woodlands and TWDC are sponsors of the tree giveaways at Arbor Day while TCID is a participating sponsor.
Over 28,000 tree seedlings in eight different varieties will be distributed free to residents at this community event, continuing a 29-year tradition that began in 1977. Residents may register to win one of five, 15-gallon native trees at the event. The drawing will be held at 1:45 p.m., and entrants must be present to win.
Highlights of Arbor Day also include free carnival games and two Rock Walls; free face painting and caricature sketches; musical entertainment from two popular hip-hop, youth performing groups, Savvy and #1 Crush; and free children’s gifts while supplies last.
Puffy Pine Cone, will celebrate his birthday during Arbor Day from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. with 17 mascot friends including Mr. Incredible, Elmo, Scooby, McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog, Toro from the Houston Texans, Carey Bear from Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital and more.
