James Shelton, Compliance Assistance Specialist at the OSHA Houston North Area Office since 2004, will be our presenter this month. A Compliance Assistance Specialist is a non-enforcement position within OSHA. He is responsible for outreach, training, and assistance to employees, employers, and industry groups. He also provides support to, maintains, and develops OSHA alliances and partnerships plus assists on Voluntary Protection Program audit teams.
During his previous eight years with OSHA, he was a Compliance Safety and Health Officer. This is an OSHA inspector who is responsible for conducting fatality, complaint, referral, and random inspections for compliance with OSHA regulations. He has conducted hundreds of worksite inspections, including multiple significant inspections that involved penalties over $100,000, and numerous fatality investigations.
Mr. Shelton was awarded an M.S. Degree in Safety Management in 1994 and a B.S. Degree in Industrial Safety and Industrial Security in 1992. Both degrees are from Central Missouri State University.
