MARKET STREET CELEBRATES NATIONAL LOLLIPOP DAY
THURSDAY, JULY 20
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop? Visitors to Market Street on Thursday, July 20 will find out during the National Lollipop Day celebration set to take place in Central Park from 4-6 pm.
Lollipop lovers of all ages are invited to participate in a “lick-off” contest and other fun games and activities. Clowns, hoola-hoops and colorful lollipop décor will add to the festivities.
National Lollipop Day is celebrated on July 20 each year. A man named George Smith invented the lollipop in 1908 and named the candy after his favorite racing horse, Lolly Pop.
The world’s largest lollipop was certified on June 25, 2002 and weighed in at 4, 031 pounds!
Located across the street from The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Market Street is bounded by Lake Woodlands Drive, Lake Robbins Drive, Grogan’s Mill Road and Six Pines Drive.
