WHAT: The Woodlands Athletic Club (WAC) will host a U.S. Olympic Diving Send-Off for 2000 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist and resident of The Woodlands, Laura Wilkinson; Nancilea Underwood-Foster; and U.S. Diving Team Head Coach and Head Diving Coach for the WAC, Kenny Armstrong. Club members from the WAC will attend this private event.
Texas State Senator Tommy Williams and State Representative Rob Eissler are among the dignitaries to be in attendance at the event. Although Congressman Kevin Brady is unable to attend, a Proclamation of Congratulations will be read from his office.
WHO: Wilkinson will compete on the 10-meter platform during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Wilkinson is the only woman in history to win all three titles on the platform: 2000 Olympic Champion, 2004 World Cup Champion and 2005 World Champion. Wilkinson is also the only American diver in history to win a Goodwill Games Gold Medal. She is a three-time Olympian.
Underwood-Foster will compete on the 3-meter springboard, making her Olympic debut at the 2008 games. Underwood-Foster is a four-time U.S. National Diving Champion.
Both Wilkinson and Underwood-Foster train under the direction of Coach Kenny Armstrong at the WAC. Armstrong is a six-time Olympian, three as a diver and three as a coach.
