HOUSTON. July 1, 2008 ~ Area shopping centers owned by General Growth Properties (GGP) are teaming up with the American Red Cross to help raise money for their response to the tornadoes and floods that recently have devastated the central part of the country.
Baybrook Mall, Deerbrook Mall, First Colony Mall, The Woodlands Mall and Willowbrook Mall are displaying flood relief donation signage throughout the malls, encouraging shoppers to donate through the mall websites (listed below) or via 800-HELP-NOW, the Red Cross’s phone number. No funds will be accepted at the mall. Money received enables the Red Cross to provide the much-needed support and care to the individuals and families affected by the tornadoes and floods that have ravaged the Central U.S. More than 160 General Growth Properties malls across the country will participate in fund-raising efforts.
The Red Cross is helping the victims of flooding and tornadoes across seven states-an enormous geographic area. From the Wisconsin dells down to the tri-state area of Iowa, Missouri and Illinois, the Red Cross is on the scene with vast amounts of clean up supplies, dozens of shelters and tens of thousands of meals. The current relief operations follow several extremely busy months for the Red Cross, with more than 30 larger disaster operations since April.
“We hope that by providing this connection to the American Red Cross, we can make it easier for everyone to contribute,” says Donna Molho, general manager of First Colony Mall. “Here on the Gulf Coast, after the devastation by hurricanes, we know the impact that reaching out and helping can make. I hope our shoppers will take advantage of this convenient way to be certain that individuals in need can be assisted. The Red Cross does a wonderful job and we are pleased that they offer this convenient way for the GGP shopping centers and our visitors to pitch in.”
“From Kansas to West Virginia, the widespread tornadoes and flooding have created an urgent need for Red Cross disaster support,” said Lauri Rhinehart, vice president of development operations for the American Red Cross. “With the generous and vital support of Baybrook Mall, Deerbrook Mall, First Colony Mall, The Woodlands Mall, Willowbrook Mall and their customers, the Red Cross continues to help survivors, their families and communities recover from these devastating circumstances.”
