The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Ranks Second in the World for Concert Ticket Sales

According to the July 24, 2006, edition of Pollstar magazine, the concert industry’s leading trade publication, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion ranked second in its listing of top 50 amphitheatres in the world based on the number of tickets sold during the first six months of 2006. The Pavilion’s ticket sales totaled 138,586 for shows played between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2006, behind the number one amphitheater, Tweeter Center At The Waterfront in Camden, NJ, which sold 196,813 tickets.

So far this season, The Pavilion has had three sold out concerts (15,000+), including Kenny Chesney April 22, Buzzfest XVII June 17 and Rascall Flatts June 18. Other concerts with attendance over 10,000 include Black Eyed Peas April 8, RBD April 30 and Kid Rock May 6. These acts also were listed in the ranking of the Top 100 Tours in the same issue of Pollstar.

“We have had an incredible number of diverse shows this season,” said Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion. “We are looking forward to an equally busy and exciting second half of the season.”

The next few months include performances by Hootie & the Blowfish July 28, Kelly Clarkson July 29, Tom Petty Aug. 5, Dave Matthews Band Aug. 18, Counting Crows and Goo Goo Dolls Sept. 7, Tool Sept. 11, Sheryl Crow and John Mayer Oct. 6 and more. There also are several Houston Symphony dates and one Houston Ballet performance.
