Action Items from TCID Board of Directors July 2007 meeting

The Town Center Improvement District’s Board of Directors meeting was held today and the following agenda items were approved:

  • Authorizing transportation consulting services to the Goodman Corporation (TGC);
  • Name change of TCID;
  • Economic development grant of new Memorial Hermann Life Flight helicopters;
  • A new international addition to TCID’s annual holiday events – Winter on the Waterway, an International Extravaganza.

TCID has engaged the services of The Goodman Corporation (TGC) to provide mobility related assistance during the next 12 months. TGC will assist TCID in continued operation of corridor trolley services and water taxi services in accordance with the Federal and Regional guidelines. In addition, TGC will assist the TCID in pursuing federal funds for transportation related infrastructure including corridor improvements, parking facilities, and pedestrian transit related amenities. Mr. Barry Goodman, the President of TGC said, “it is exciting to work with the TCID Board of Directors and staff on mobility improvements which enhance the quality of life in The Woodlands community.”

TGC has been working on mobility improvements for The Woodlands area for over 25 years through its relationship with The Woodlands Land Development Corporation and Brazos Transit District. During this time TGC has assisted in securing federal funding to support development of several park and ride facilities as well as the Town Center waterway corridor.

During Mr. Goodman’s 25 years as President, TGC has assisted its clients in obtaining over $1 billion of federal funding to support mobility related improvements. TGC has numerous local clients including Harris County, Fort Bend County, the Uptown Management District, Midtown Management District, Greater Southeast Management District, Upper Kirby Management District, Downtown Management District, and numerous private developers.

Mr. Frank Robinson, President of TCID stated, “We are looking forward to our working relationship with TGC and the opportunity to prove the excellent transportation services in The Woodlands Town Center.”

Also considered and approved today was the decision to consider a recommendation made by the Committee on Governance and Nominations (CGN), to change the Town Center Improvement District name to “The Woodlands Township.” The name evolved from joint meetings of the District and community association transition team. Mr. Robinson stated, “It is to the benefit of The Woodlands Town Center and the governance that serves and supports it, to always prepare for future transitions.” The consensus of the transition team was to change the name to be consistent and reflective of the intent of the District’s amended legislation, meet the expectations of the Governance Steering Committee, present a unified government of The Woodlands, and support the concept of a transitional government providing municipal type services. The recommendation is contingent upon the successful passage of the November 6, 2007 referendums.

The TCID Board of Directors approved a $250,000 grant for Life Flight, a program at Memorial Hermann Hospital System. The hospital system is investing $36 million to replace the entire fleet of 20 year old helicopters serving the Life Flight program. “Quality healthcare is key to corporate relocation efforts in progress in the Town Center,” Mr. Robinson said.

The Board of Directors authorized TCID’s Marketing department to transfer 2007 budget dollars from a boat parade to create a new holiday event called Winter on The Waterway, an International Extravaganza. “With the increasing cultural diversity we experience in The Woodlands, a holiday event with international appeal seems to make since,” said Nick Wolda, vice president of marketing & public affairs. “Our research shows a great deal of excitement of an event such as this.” The event will be held in conjunction with the 25th Annual Lighting of the Doves, as well as several additional events.
