Chamber’s June Luncheon to Feature EfTA
The South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon will be Wednesday, June 28, at 11:30 a.m. at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center.
The June business luncheon will feature the Student Internship Program of Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EfTA). More than 100 students, who will be seniors in the fall, will participate. Most of the young adults will be finishing up 80 hours of career exploration in a host business of their choice. Many of the 70 hosts will also attend.
In addition to the first hand experience and “on the job” training, the students will attend a conference designed to enhance their leadership skills and deepen their exposure to the career exploration process. During the conference, they will participate in workshops about communication, professional behavior, and a presentation of EfTA’s GOALS--a value-based self-awareness activity.
Jaymie Pedigo, EfTA’s Manager of Communications and Development, said, “When we first started the program we wanted it to be about life visioning. Our main goal was to prepare students to overcome obstacles in life. Every child should be able to achieve educational dreams and make the best of the resources available to them.”
“We wanted to prepare kids to set realistic goals. We discovered the best way to do that is to set goals based on their inherent values and motivation. Part of the reason we do not achieve goals is because they may be contradictory to what really motivates us.”
“One thing we asked students throughout the development process was ‘how many of you have done something (just because) your parents wanted you to?’ What students need to learn are not the basics of goal setting. They need to find out what motivates them. We are hoping students will come out of the program with a better understanding of who they are and why they dream what they do for themselves.”
Reservations for the luncheon are a must! Please call The Chamber NOW at 281-367-5777.
