THE WOODLANDS TOWN CENTER ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR RED, HOT & BLUE FESTIVAL
One of the Greater Houston area's largest 4th of July fireworks displays will be in The Woodlands Town Center this Independence Day.
But the fun begins long before the big light show.
On Independence Eve (Monday, July 3), the Houston Symphony will perform a FREE "Star-Spangled Salute" Concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Families are invited to bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy a variety of patriotic favorites under the stars. There will also be a special performance from local American Idol Finalist Will Makar. Gates open at 6:30 pm for the 8 pm concert.
On Tuesday, July 4th, the celebration kicks off at 9 am with the Hats Off to America Parade featuring marching bands from around the Houston area, classic cars, floats, fire trucks and more. Bring a lawn chair and sit along the route, which begins at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, stretches along Grogan's Mill and culminates at Market Street.
Starting at 6 pm on Tuesday, July 4th , celebrate America at the 9th annual Red, Hot & Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Munday Mazda/Munday Chevrolet. Held at Town Green Park, located along The Woodlands Waterway®, the Festival will take place between 6-10 pm, and entertainment during this festive celebration will include live music from local greats such as Houston's famed keyboardist and band Ezra Charles, inflatable bounce houses, face painting, putt-putt golf course, rock-climbing walls and strolling performers. Contests include the popular watermelon and hot dog eating contests and the Little Firecracker Essay Contest presented by Capital One.
When the sun goes down, festival revelers will witness one of the largest fireworks displays in the Greater Houston area. The impressive show will be launched from a new location this year - atop the Waterway Plaza parking garage on Timberloch Place, which will allow the bursts to travel higher and be seen from more area locations. This 23-minute show will be simulcast on Sunny 99.1.
Certain streets in the area will be closed from 8:45 pm to 10:00 pm including Woodloch Forest Drive and Waterway Avenue (between Woodlands Parkway and Lake Robbins), and Timberloch Place (between Woodloch Forest Drive and Waterway Avenue).
"We anticipate this year's festivities to be fun, exciting and memorable," said Nick Wolda, Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs for Town Center Improvement District (TCID), producer of the Red, Hot & Blue Festival. "Our new festival location, Town Green Park, is the perfect setting for creating a fun, memorable experience."
The Red, Hot & Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to park for $5 in the Town Center Garage located on Six Pines Drive. Free parking will be available at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Blue, Green, Orange and Yellow lots on Timberloch Place. For a map, visit www.redhotblue.org or call 281-363-2447.
