Unique architectural features in The Woodlands’ East Shore – East Shore Bridge, Colonial Park and the entrance to the community - were recently recognized by the Associated Masonry Contractors of Houston (AMCH), according to Joel Deretchin, vice president of public affairs for The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC). East Shore, the “Garden District” of The Woodlands Town Center, is a 260-acre enclave bordering 200-acre Lake Woodlands.
In association with the Texas Masonry Council, the AMCH presented the 2007 Golden Trowel Hardscape/Landscape award to Clark Condon Associates, landscape architect for East Shore; Paul Hoggatt of Hogatt LP, the general contractor and mason for East Shore; and TWDC, the developer of The Woodlands. The Golden Trowel award recognizes excellence in all phases of masonry construction.
East Shore Bridge and pond are situated in Olmstead Park in East Shore. “The East Shore Bridge serves as a welcoming feature and sets the architectural tone for site amenities in East Shore. The unique stonework features two varieties of stone, Texas limestone and sandstone, which are integrated throughout the landscape architecture of East Shore,” said Bob Bruce, manager of recreation facilities development for TWDC. “The stonework creates a seamless façade with the water’s edge.”
Situated among refined Southern Colonial architecture, Colonial Park highlights an elevated plaza with a vine covered arbor, curved stone steps and a low-seat wall; large lawn area with shade trees; and a central fountain surrounded by lush landscaping.
The entrance to East Shore is located at East Shore Drive and Grogan’s Mill Road. “The use of Texas limestone and sandstone is first introduced at the entrance in the four columns and the low sign wall, bearing the community name, as well as the internal fiber optic lighting,” said Bruce. “The columns emphasize the pedestrian-friendly ambiance of East Shore.”
East Shore features urban residences rendered in Classic American architectural styles, tree-lined boulevards, alleys, garden parks and ornamental lighting. East Shore is within walking distance to upscale shopping, dining and entertainment along The Woodlands Waterway®, a 1.4-mile transportation corridor, linear park and water amenity in The Woodlands Town Center, the downtown of the community.
The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre master-planned community located 27 miles north of downtown Houston. It is a project of The Woodlands Development Company, a limited partnership of Morgan Stanley and General Growth Properties, Inc. |
