THE WOODLANDS DEVELOPMENT COMPANY APPLAUDS
AGREEMENT TO CEASE ANNEXATION
OF HARPER’S LANDING AND MUD NO. 39
The agreement announced yesterday between the City of Conroe, The Woodlands Association (TWA), The Woodlands Fire Department (TWFD), MUD 39 and Town Center Improvement District to effectively cease annexation of the residential community of Harper’s Landing and MUD 39 is being applauded as a “win-win” by Alex Sutton and Tim Welbes, co-presidents of The Woodlands Development Company.
“The Woodlands Development Company applauds all parties on the announcement of this mutually beneficial agreement. Most importantly, it is another very positive step in paving the way toward uniting all residents of The Woodlands as we move closer to incorporation or the adoption of an alternate form of government for our entire community,” Sutton and Welbes said “It also provides for regional improvement projects that will benefit both the City of Conroe and The Woodlands, in addition to a more comprehensive and cooperative system of fire protection and emergency medical services throughout the two communities.
“The recent passage of two bills in the 80th Texas Legislature relating to the non-annexation agreement between the City of Houston and The Woodlands - Senate Bill 1012 by Senator Tommy Williams, relating to regional participation agreements, and House Bill 4109 by Representation Rob Eissler, relating to the powers and authority of the TCID within The Woodlands - has made it possible for these groups to enter into a similar mutually beneficial agreement between the City of Conroe and The Woodlands community,” according to Sutton and Welbes. “Our thanks to all those who represented the parties to this agreement between the City of Conroe and The Woodlands, and to Senator Williams and Representative Eissler for their critical role in building the foundation for these historic agreements.”
