Caliente Spices Up Pavilion Cabaret Series
The Woodlands, TX, March 14, 2003 - The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, announces the final installment in its Twilight Cabaret Series Mar. 27 at 8 p.m. at The Pavilion's Woodforest Bank Event Tent. The event features the music of Caliente, one of the hottest jazz and salsa bands in Houston. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $18. Reserved tables of 10 can be purchased for $225.
Under the direction of Jose Antonio Diaz, Caliente, the repertoire ensemble for Diaz Music Institute, has become one of the finest Hispanic youth music ensembles in the country. The group has performed with stars such as Bobby Rodriguez, Eddie Palmieri and the Buena Vista Social Club. Caliente also has been featured at Hispanic Day for the Houston Astros, the Houston World Trade Gala and the Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation's Cinco De Mayo Program. Located in Houston, the Diaz Music Institute is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to the enrichment of the Hispanic music culture. The institute strives to present and document Hispanic music in Houston and the surrounding areas. It also supports youth music groups through citywide outreach programs, thus enhancing the musical training of young musicians and expanding opportunities that nurture an appreciation of Hispanic music.
Diaz, artistic director for the institute and director of the MacArthur High School Jazz Ensembles, received a Down Beat Magazine Award for Achievement in Jazz Education and was selected by FOX 26 and Univision as Hispanic Hero. Recently, he was inducted into the Texas Christian University Band Hall of Fame and conducted the Texas All-State Jazz Ensemble. In addition to featuring some of the greatest jazz and salsa music in Houston, guests can enjoy complimentary chips and salsa or pay an additional charge for a complete salsa, nacho and taco bar.
Individual tickets for the cabaret are $18. Guests can save $3 on individual tickets by presenting their ticket stubs from the Jan. 24 or Feb. 28 cabarets. Tickets can be purchased at The Pavilion Ticket Office, located at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands, by calling 281-364-3010, or at the door before the show. Due to limited seating, advance purchase is recommended. Free parking is available in The Pavilion's on-site parking garage.
