Local Family Team: Roxanne Smith Davis with family members living in Oak Ridge North, The Woodlands and Conroe . . . . walking in memory of Doc and Helen Smith, who lived and worked in Conroe for more than 40 years who lost their fight with Leukemia & Lymphoma in 1993 and 2002. |
The Woodlands . . . . . The 3 rd Annual Leukemia/Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk in the Woodlands lit up Market Street and Woodlands Town Center as more than 1000 walkers carried twinkling balloons and walked for a cure to help fund research for blood cancers.
Organizers were thrilled at the end of the evening to announce that more than $133,000 had been raised with more donations expected to roll in for the next few weeks. The event has more than quadrupled in size in participation and dollars raised over the past 3 years!
Light the Night Walk is a national fundraising campaign that commemorates and celebrates all lives touched by cancer. Company teams, civic groups, neighbors and friends raise funds strolling on an evening walk along a two-three mile route carrying twinkling balloons . . . White balloons for survivors, Red balloons for supporters and Gold Balloons in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Walkers carry dedication banners that provide an opportunity to display a name or message, honoring or commemorating a family member or friend with cancer. More than a walk, Light the Night is a community celebration with food, live entertainment and family activities – a community coming together to support people with cancer.
Local sponsors included House of Forgings, Sadler Clinic, The Oil & Gas Asset Clearinghouse, Tetra Technologies, Amegy Bank, Stibbs & Co., Baran Telecom, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, All State, Wells Fargo, Jim and Nelda Blair, Market Street and Trademark Properties.
