Study shows majority of shoppers come from outside The Woodlands

A newly-released research report conducted by one of the nation's leading research companies shows that 78 percent of shoppers in The Woodlands Town Center are coming from outside The Woodlands.

The Town Center Improvement District Board of Directors learned today through a comprehensive Visitation and Spending Study that 78 percent of visitors in The Woodlands Town Center come from outside of The Woodlands, according to research conducted in the month of September 2007. Research was conducted on four consecutive weekends in September by Cunningham Research Group, Inc. “This research demonstrates the impact of The Woodlands as a local, regional and national destination,” said Dr. Brian S. Zaff, chief research officer, Cunningham Research Group.

“This research speaks to the success of The Woodlands growing as a regional destination,” said Frank W. Robinson, president, Town Center Improvement District. “We know The Woodlands Mall has had a regional draw for many years, but with the addition of Market Street, The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, and hundreds of other new stores and restaurants, this research clearly shows the regional destination appeal of The Woodlands.”

Here are key facts associated with the study:

  • Of the 750 shoppers randomly surveyed during the month of September, 126 zip codes were represented, further showing the reach of The Woodlands Town Center.
  • The study achieved a 95 percent confidence level with a sampling margin of error of +/- 4% with a statistically significant result.
  • Consumers with zip codes outside of The Woodlands spent more per visit than consumers within The Woodlands ($111 to $101 respectively).
  • Shoppers from outside The Woodlands area estimated they spent over $500 at The Woodlands Town Center during the past year.

Town Center Improvement District has been strategically engaged in public/private partnerships to increase the destination appeal of The Woodlands, including new developments at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Market Street, The Woodlands Mall, The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center and its newest partnership with Waterway Square. Additionally, Town Center Improvement District has been aggressively marketing The Woodlands Town Center as a place to shop, dine, play and stay through advertising, public relations, and special events.

Town Center Improvement District is a public entity committed to maintaining The Woodlands Town Center and surrounding area, as the best possible place in which to live, work, shop, and in vest.
