TOWN CENTER AMBASSADORS PROVIDE PERSONAL TOUCH
THE WOODLANDS, Texas ( October 18, 2004) -- The call for qualified applicants for newly established Town Center Ambassadors positions has been answered. Town Center Improvement District has assembled an experienced, professional team who will be patrolling the district to greet, direct and assist visitors.
“After completing their training, the Town Center Ambassadors will be prepared to assist in the areas of security, safety, marketing and environmental issues,” said Steve Sumner, Vice President of Operations and Public Safety for Town Center Improvement District (TCID). “These Ambassadors will provide TCID with yet another element of its community policing program and will function much like the Alpha & Omega Mounted Patrol Troopers who stay in contact with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.”
Ambassadors will be uniformed and will patrol the district on foot, by bicycle and in vehicles beginning the week of October 18, 2004. Their proximity to pedestrians will be advantageous in ascertaining suspicious behavior, arriving as first responders to an emergency situation, and developing a rapport with visitors who need direction or are curious about the district’s history and attractions.
Six individuals distinguished themselves among the applicants and each comes from a management, professional or customer relations background.
“I sent my resume the first day. I had read about it months ago and wanted to be sure I applied,” said Marina Valenzuela. “I wanted to come in on the ground floor and have the opportunity to create something new for the area.”
As a customer service representative, Valenzuela already felt that she was an ambassador working for a store in Town Center. “Families came in every day who had just moved to the area and needed to know where to go,” said Valenzuela. “I think it’s very important that we attract people from all walks of life and that’s what we’re trying to do here in The Woodlands Town Center.”
Jerry Singletary is a retired petrochemical manager who has traveled from Houston to New York and Aruba in his jobs. He thinks he’s perfect for it.
“When I first read about it I thought ‘wow’ that fits me to a T!” said Singletary. “I’m a joyous person and I want to share that with people I meet.”
He and his wife, Kitty, just celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary and stay in shape by swing dancing and riding their tandem bicycle around their Woodlands neighborhood. He welcomes the opportunity to stay active and exercise as part of his job. “This is such an exciting area,” he said.
