TEXAS MONTHLY Signs On As Media Sponsor
For Signatures Author Series in The Woodlands
The John Cooper School Fine Arts Council is pleased to announce that Texas Monthly has signed on as Media Sponsor for the 2nd Annual Signatures Community Author Series featuring Pulitzer Prize winning columnist and author Dave Barry. The luncheon event will be held on January 16, 2007 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
The goal of Signatures is to bring notable authors to The Woodlands annually for a community wide promotion of literacy. Last year’s inaugural series was a sell-out event with over 800 in attendance. Signatures Committee Chairperson Cindy Hardin, along with committee members Cindy Bohannon, Amy Lecocq and Lori Riley, are pleased that Texas Monthly will be the exclusive magazine sponsor for the second annual Signatures luncheon.
“We are delighted to have such a distinguished Texas publication partner with us to promote literacy in our community,” Hardin said. “We look forward to the humor, wit and wisdom that Dave Barry will share with us, in addition to an outstanding lineup of local authors who will round out our emphasis on the importance and enjoyment of reading.”
A Pulitzer Prize winner for commentary, Dave Barry writes about issues ranging from the international economy to exploding toilets. For 25 years, he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers. Barry is now a much sought-after public speaker, bringing his unique perspective and humorous outlook to groups and organizations nationwide.
Barry has written 30 books, including two published this year, Dave Barry’s Money Secrets, and for young readers, Peter and the Starcatchers, a book he co-authored that is a prequel to the Peter Pan story. Table sponsorships are available at $5,000, $3,000 and $1,250 levels and individual tickets are $75.
“We are currently looking for businesses, groups and organizations who would like to join us as table sponsors,” Hardin said. “We look forward to joining together again as a community to focus on the importance of reading and look forward to the opportunity to hear from an author who will remind us all of the importance of maintaining a sense of humor in our daily lives.”
Proceeds from Signatures will support the continuation of this annual literary series with a portion designated for Cooper’s fine arts program. A portion of this year’s proceeds will also be donated to the Literacy Volunteers of America-Montgomery County.
