The Town Center Improvement District Board of Directors today unanimously approved a Regional Participation Agreement (RPA) with the City of Houston as The Woodlands community decides its future governance structure. The Houston City Council approved the same RPA in a council meeting today.
“This clearly shows the spirit of cooperation in this region,” said State Senator Tommy Williams, who originally announced the Regional Participation Agreement with City of Houston Mayor Bill White in December 2006. “We appreciate Mayor White and each of the City Council members for their unanimous support in adopting this historic agreement.”
“This is an historic day in The Woodlands,” said Nelda Luce Blair, Chairman, Board of Directors, Town Center Improvement District. “The development of the Agreement shows a great spirit of cooperation between the community of The Woodlands and the City of Houston. I commend all the individuals who have worked so diligently in this historic event.”
“This agreement is monumental,” said Rob Eissler, Texas State Representative. “No community has ever gone through a process such as this. I think this is one of the reasons why the Greater Houston region, which includes The Woodlands, is such a special place in America. The Woodlands has the opportunity to choose how it wants to be governed and partner with the great city of Houston at the same time.”
Residents of The Woodlands have begun going to the polls in early voting at the South Montgomery County Community Center on Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands Town Center. Early voting will continue on the following dates: October 22-27, 2007; October 29-November 2, 2007. The general election takes place in polls throughout The Woodlands on Tuesday, November 6, 2007.
