CREEKSIDE PARK, THE WOODLANDS' NINTH VILLAGE, OPENS TO THE PUBLIC

The Woodlands' ninth residential village – The Village of Creekside Park – was officially dedicated October 19, 2007, the 33 rd Birthday of The Woodlands, Texas. A VIP Dedication Ceremony was held at 5 pm in the new Rob Fleming Park, a 20-acre outdoor amenity named in honor of the late Rob Fleming, who was an illustrator for Texas Parks & Wildlife for many years. His widow, Sharon Fleming, along with members of her immediate and extended family, attended the ceremony. Congressman Kevin Brady was among the dignitaries who spoke at the private event.

The private event preceded the Public Grand Opening which was held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 10 am – 6 pm in Rob Fleming Park. Two Showcase of Homes events – one in the gated community of Carlton Woods Creekside and another in the neighborhood of Wilde Creek, located near the main entrance to the village off Gosling Road, are underway. A free, family-oriented outdoor festival was another Grand Opening attraction, according to Tim Welbes, president of The Woodlands Development Company.

The Showcase of Homes in Carlton Woods Creekside began Saturday, October 13 and runs through Sunday, October 28 from 10 am – 6 pm daily. Six lavishly furnished and decorated homes, priced from $1.3 - $2.7 million, are open for touring. Admission is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are admitted free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit New Danville and Interfaith of The Woodlands. Builders include Braniff Development Group, Savoy Custom Homes, Termeer and Associates, Sterling Classic Homes and Ultra Classic Custom Homes.

“We encourage everyone to come to the Grand Opening of Creekside Park to discover the wide variety of new homes, outstanding parks, lakes and outdoor amenities in The Woodlands' newest village,” said Welbes. “We are extremely proud of the outdoor amenities already open and planned for the Village of Creekside Park. We are now welcoming visitors to Rob Fleming Park, the George Mitchell Nature Preserve, and the new residential neighborhoods in Creekside Park.”

The main attraction at the Public Grand Opening was a family festival highlighting the many new outdoor amenities that will soon be available in Creekside Park. Tethered hot air balloon rides, rock climbing walls, kayaking and fishing lessons and a Mini-Sailboat Regatta on Fleming Pond were featured. “Camp Creekside for Kids” included children's crafts, a petting zoo, face painting, planting seeds in the Fleming Park “Bluebonnet Meadow” and other fun activities dedicated to nature and the great outdoors.

Rob Fleming Lodge was the setting for a free outdoor concert called “Music from Kerrville – an Outdoor Family Experience” from 3 – 6 pm. The concert starred Michael Martin Murphey and the Heartland Cowboys, Floyd Domino and the Western Swing All-Star with special guest mandolin virtuoso, Paul Glasse, and the Terri Hendrix Quartet. “Music from Kerrville-An Outdoor Family Experience” was produced by Rod Kennedy, founder of the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Also on Saturday, October 20, the Showcase of Homes in Wilde Creek began and will run through Sunday, October 28 from 10 am – 6 pm daily. Admission is free. 17 decorated model homes are open for touring, priced from the $200's - $700's. Builders include Chesmar Homes, Darling Homes, Highland Homes, Plantation Homes, Trendmaker Homes, Village Builders, David Weekley Homes and Wilshire Homes.

After the concert and family festival concluded on October 20, the First Annual Creekside Campout began. The camp-in movie, “The Great Outdoors” starring John Candy, was shown on a giant screen in the park. S'mores making by the campfire, star gazing, night games and a night hike through the George Mitchell Nature Preserve were other highlights of this evening of reconnecting with nature.
