INTERNATIONAL WINTER ON THE WATERWAY MAKES
ITS DEBUT SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17
The Woodlands Town Center, which continues to introduce family-friendly events that attract a regional audience, has announced the conception of a new event called International Winter On The Waterway (iWOW). The event will make its debut Saturday, November 17 from 3 – 9 pm in conjunction with The 25 th Annual Lighting of the Doves Festival, presented by Community Assocations of The Woodlands, The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center and the Winter Wonderland.
The idea for iWOW was conceived based on the 92 nationalities represented by households in The Woodlands. iWOW, which will have a “street fair” feel, will showcase holiday traditions from all over the world through food, dancing, crafts, music and more.
Visitors can stroll the banks on The Woodlands Waterway Ò beginning at Town Green Park and experience many other holiday cultures and traditions along the way.
“We wanted to host an event that celebrates the diversity in The Woodlands,” said Nick Wolda, Vice-President of Marketing and Public Affairs for Town Center Improvement District in The Woodlands. “International Winter On The Waterway will be the first of its kind in the Greater Houston area, and we expect it to become part of our holiday tradition here in Town Center.”
In addition to iWOW, The Lighting of The Doves Festival will be held in Town Green Park on November 17 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. This 25 th Annual celebration will include food, live music performances and the arrival of Santa Clause to officially kick off the holiday season in The Woodlands.
The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center is back this year with the largest outdoor ice rink in the Southwest. The ice rink will be open to the public November 17 through January 14, 2008. Located at the corner of Six Pines and Lake Robbins Drive, hours of operation are: Monday - Thursday, 3 pm – 9 pm; Fridays, 3 pm – 11 pm; Saturdays, 10 am – 11 pm; and Sundays, noon until 7 pm. Tickets are $9.50 for adults and children over five and include skate rentals. Tickets for children five and under are $5 and include skate rentals.
The Winter Wonderland features illuminated holiday scenes and storybook displays in a 2-acre area surrounding the ice rink. Visitors can wander among the fantasyland of magical, lighted toy soldiers, elves, doves, musical angels and snowmen from dusk until 11 p.m. beginning November 17 and running through January 2, 2008.
