Free Houston Symphony Youth Strings Workshop for Conroe ISD High School
Orchestra Musicians
The
Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods
Mitchell Pavilion, will host a free Houston Symphony strings workshop Friday at
3:30 p.m. as part of its Music in Motion educational outreach program.
This clinic is designed for students to receive instruction in an
intimate setting from Violist Linda Goldstein (for upper strings) and Cellist
Anthony Kitai (for lower strings). Students
will receive tips on posture, hand and instrument positioning and pizzicato
techniques while in a sectional workshop setting.
Then upper and lower strings will come together for a reading of
Mendelssohn’s “Andante” from Symphony No. 5 under the direction of Houston
Symphony’s American Symphony Orchestra League Conducting Fellow Rebecca
Miller.
Orchestra
students from four high school campuses within Conroe I.S.D. are participating
in this workshop, including College Park, Conroe, The Woodlands and Oak Ridge
high schools. This workshop is not open to the general public.
