The Woodlands, TX - One of the primary missions of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that produces The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival annually, is educational outreach. Each year, The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council honors exceptional Conroe ISD art teachers for outstanding contributions to arts education by giving two awards in the fields of the visual and performing arts.
Applications have been accepted since November 1, 2010 and the deadline of Monday, February 21, 2011 for the 2011 award winners is approaching. Nominations must be in writing and submitted on the form located on The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival’s website, located at http://www.woodlandsartsfestival.com/outreach.teacher.asp. The person who is nominated must agree to be nominated. All completed applications should be sent by the deadline to Mary Ellen Castillo, P.O. Box 8184, The Woodlands,TX 77387.
The criteria for the awards includes: going beyond ordinary teaching duties by giving of themselves and their time to foster an environment of enrichment through the arts; recognized by peers as being creative, innovative and an outstanding teacher with a passion for the arts; dedication to instilling a love of the arts in students by example and by innovative and creative teaching methods; and, contributing to art education by actively seeking opportunities and partnerships in the community for students.
The winners will be selected by the Awards Committee, comprised of three members of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council’s Education Outreach Committee and two other members who have been past recipients.
Each winner will receive a $2,000 cash award and a commemorative piece, and the winners will be formally recognized at the VIP Art Dash event set for Friday, April 8, 2011 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel. The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival will be held along The Woodlands Waterway® and in Town Green Park on Saturday, April 9 from 10 am – 7 pm and Sunday, April 10 from 10 am – 6 pm.
