THE WOODLANDS CELEBRATES TRAVEL & TOURISM WEEK MAY 5 -13
Local Tourism Celebrated at Fiesta Universal
 
THE WOODLANDS, TX (May 4, 2012) – The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau will kick off National Travel & Tourism Week on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the ninth annual Fiesta Universal at Waterway Square with giveaways and more to celebrate and recognize the positive impact of visitors to The Woodlands.
 
“Fiesta Universal is the ideal place to kick off Travel & Tourism week as international visitors along with business travelers and vacationing families is key to our status as a meetings and getaway destination,” says Nick Wolda, president of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau.
 
Those at Fiesta Universal can visit The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau’s booth for special giveaways. Visitors to the booth are also encouraged to sign a banner supporting tourism in The Woodlands. Those who sign the banner can sign-up to be entered to win a “Be a Tourist in The Woodlands” package that includes a night stay at The Woodlands Resort, Waterway Cruiser Day Passes, Kayak Passes to Riva Row Boat House, a $75 gift card to Rico’s Grill in The Woodlands and more.
 
The Travel & Tourism Package sign-up will be set up thru May 12 at The Woodlands Mall and Market Street information centers for shoppers to enter the prize package drawing. Also, attendees to The Woodlands CVB’s Movie Night at Waterway Square on May 5 and 12, 2012 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. will have a chance to sign-up for the drawing. The winner of the “Be a Tourist in The Woodlands” package will be announced on May 14 on The Woodlands CVB’s Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/VisitTheWoodlands.
 
Nationally, travel and tourism remain one of America’s largest industries, according to the U.S. Travel Association based on travel expenditures by domestic and international travelers. The industry also represents one of America’s largest employers with 7.5 million direct travel-generated jobs and $188 billion in travel-generated payroll.
 
The goal of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau is to drive demand for The Woodlands as a travel destination, thereby creating new revenue for businesses and increasing sales and hotel occupancy tax for The Woodlands Township. Tax revenue generated by the tourism industry is invested back into improving The Woodlands’ infrastructure and programs.
