Fireworks Extravaganza

After careful consideration, the annual Fireworks Show in The Woodlands has been cancelled due to historic drought conditions. All other activities of The Red, Hot & Blue Festival will continue as promoted with live entertainment in Town Green Park and Waterway Square.

Please see note from The Woodlands Fire Chief Alan Benson regarding the cancellation of fireworks:

As with any professional fireworks display, there is always a certain level of risk associated with the production. Given normal conditions, The Woodlands Fire Department and The Woodlands Township is willing to allow the fireworks display to occur. However, this year our region is experiencing an unprecedented drought. While the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) is currently 692, which is slightly below what is considered extreme potential fire conditions (700-800), it is predicted that Montgomery County, including The Woodlands Township, will be well above the 700 range this week, unless substantial rainfall occurs. It is my understanding that the wildfire which occurred in Grimes County, recently started when the drought index was slightly below 700, as The Woodlands is currently experiencing now.

For these reasons, I feel that the level of risk this year is simply not acceptable. One of the most valued characteristics of our area is our forest and I am not prepared to chance any loss of our natural beauty and any damage to our residential or commercial properties as a result of the public fireworks display.
