Essay Topic — HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE FREEDOM?
The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau will be asking youth to write an essay on "How Do You Celebrate Freedom?" as part of the Red, Hot & Blue Little Firecracker Essay Contest.
Entry deadline in Friday, June 24, 2011 by 5 pm.
Patriotic Essay Contest Rules**
Theme: To Be Announced
Eligibility: 5-18 years old (Kindergarten – High School)
Cover Page: Contest title, name, age, grade, mailing address, phone number & email, Guardian's signature required verifying child’s original work. Students should include their name on the cover sheet only; NOT on the essay.
Essay Length: 150-200 words
Essay Format: Typed in 12 pt. font, double-spaced, or handwritten in ink, double-spaced.
Submission: Delivery location to be announced.
Deadline: Friday, June 24, 2011 by 5 pm
Judging by: To be announced
Judging Criteria: Originality – 40%, Style and Content – 30%, Spelling and Grammar – 20%, Neatness – 10%
Age Categories: 1) 5 to 6 years old, 2) 7 to 9 years old, 3) 10 to 12 years old, 4) 13 to 15 years old, 5) 16 to 18 years old
Prizes:
(include, but not limited to, hotel stay, restaurant gift card, movie passes)
One Grand Prize Winner – The winner will receive an opportunity to read their essay on stage at the Red, Hot & Blue Festival. Other prizes to be announced.
One First Prize Winner from each age category will be selected and will receive various gift cards to restaurants, movie theater and more.
Other Prize – Each participant will be automatically entered in a drawing for a "Night on the Town in The Woodlands."
